Working together for a sustainable community

Published:Thursday 28 January 2010

A conference in Oundle this week will hear how local communities across East Northamptonshire can develop, even starting off with little or no cash!

The conference is being organised by ENable and East Northamptonshire Council and hosted by Laxton Junior School, Oundle.

ENable is a partnership of key organisations and agencies from the public, private and voluntary sectors whose work directly affects the local communities of East Northamptonshire. This conference is an opportunity for local people, businesses and community groups to see what is being achieved in their area, how they can get involved with their ideas and future ENable initiatives to look out for.

Speakers attending the event on 28 January, include Julie Doyle, Chair of Enable, Mike Greenway of East Northamptonshire Council, Collyweston Community Shop, the Oundle Transition Town Group and Groundwork North Northants.

Mike Greenway, Community Development Manager at East Northamptonshire Council, said: “We are expecting around 70 delegates to the conference who can take the opportunity to share their knowledge and discuss ways that we can work collaboratively in these difficult times. I hope that all our delegates will be inspired to take away ideas they can put into practice.”

Headmaster of Laxton Junior School, Mark Potter, commented: “I am very excited about this conference and believe that by hosting this event, it will help Laxton Junior School and Oundle to be at the heart of local community development. LJS parents will be invited to the evening session of the conference to meet some of the delegates and find out for themselves the ways in which ENable are working for the communities of East Northamptonshire.”
