CAN YOU VOLUNTEER?
MHA is one of the largest nationwide charities dedicated to improving the lives of older people. At Rushden Park Nursing Home we provide both nursing and residential care facilities in a bright, modern, caring & welcoming environment.

Volunteers have always been important at Rushden Park and continue to enhance the lives of residents in many different ways. Volunteers are appreciated for any hours they can give and do receive support & training.

I am passionate about taking our volunteer services to a whole new dimension, creating a fun, vibrant & entertaining environment. We have Volunteering opportunities in a variety of areas, from befriending, to activities, to music, to gardening and everything in between. If you would like to make a positive difference, I suggest that you get in touch to arrange a visit to pop in take a look around, get a feel for the place and see whether it might be something of interest to you. If you like having fun and being with genuine people, you`ll fit right in.

In 1940 I was an evacuee sent to Stanwick with many others. I well remember being chosen by Mrs Humpries who lived in a house named Beechtrees and stayed with her family for quite a while before going on to other families who I do not remember . The Humphries had a maid named Edith who lived opposite Beechtrees. In 1964 before I emigrated to Australia I took my family of two children and husband back to Stanwick and traced the Humphries to Rushden where they moved to. They greeted me by saying `It is Kathleen the evacuee " They had not seen me for 20 years but still remembered me .I remember they had two sons in the Airforce . Just recently I attended the 70th Reunion in St Pauls Cathedral in London and also visited Stanwick but disappointed could not find an elderly person who remembered the evacuees . I stopped at the Church to take a photo and two small boys were watching me so I asked if they were locals and told them of my stay in Stanwick 70 years ago . They were so interested and then asked if the Church was there when i lived there ! I must have looked so ancient to them !!!!Finding your site I am now hoping that through this I can find someone who knows of the Evacuee invasion !!Would really appreciate if there is and would love to correspond with anyone . I also went in the local pub but they were all young in there too!My interest in the village is genuine and I would love to know when Beechtrees was demolished . It was a palace to where I came from and my memories are still vivid of my stay there and also visiting the Squires house for afternoon tea !!!The Humphries had connection with a shoe factory I believe .
Best Wishes

I spent a number of months lodging in Stanwick with Delph Carlisle in the early 80s but lost touch. It would be great to here from her if she is still in the area.

Well - now that Stanwick Parish Council has its own website, I've actually discovered this noticeboard!

I'd be interested to know how many others have found it, apart from me and Mike, that is! (I wonder if he ever found his long lost friend?)

Just surfed in to find out what Stanwick was like now. I was brought up in Stanwick from 1941 to 1958 when I then joined the Army and moved away. I have returned regularly recently with my Mother, and sisters to lay a wreath on the memorial on Rememberance Sunday for my Father, Leonard Macdonald Morris who was killed in Sycily in the 2nd World War. I attended Stanwick School in the days of Mr Smerdon.

Hi Trevor! I remember your family - particularly Alan, Rodney and Velda - and Mr. Smerdon was my headmaster too. I've lived in Stanwick since 1951, and I can assure you that things have really changed since you left the village! There's not quite as many Morris families in the village as there used to be, but still a few remain here!

Have you taken a look at the Stanwick Parish Council website? We've had our own Parish Council for a few years now!
